Description: TRACK: AUTISM (Living With) Artist: BRICK CASEY LABEL: Awareness Media Group, Inc. Avail: Itunes, CDBABY, and more... ******************************** This is dedicated to all of the families that are living with autism. We understand the amount of care and enduring love that it takes for families how have autistic children. With the lack of resources available to these families...this only adds to the stress in their lives. We at Awareness Media would like the public to know just how serious Autism is in America.....here's a few stats. - More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, Diabetes and Cancer combined. Leukemia - 1 child out of 25,000 Funded annually: $310 mill Muscular Dystrophy - 1 child out of 20,000 Funded annually: $175 mill. Pediatric AIDS - 1 child out of 8,000 Funded annually: $394 mill. Juvenile Diabetes - 1 child out of 500 Funded annually: $130 mill. Autism - 1 child out of 166 Funded annually: $100 mill. As you see, there clearly is a need for more monies allocated towards the research for Autism. In closing, our hearts go out to all of those who are currently have children affected by austism, (as well as those to come). Please...volunteer, donate...or just speak out about autism...many families will appreciate all that you do. Sincerely, BRICK CASEY

Grow up

"But autism is not the root cause" This is not a statement of scientific fact, but merely your strongly held belief. While I respect that you hold this belief, it is not evidence based nor provable. There are, in fact, many studies linking these issues to autism, easily googled, so I won't insult your intelligence by linking to them. Be aware, disregarding a possible connection is excluding an area of research that has been vastly shown to bear fruit. Science isn't personal. Have an open mind.

Seizure issues need to be treated as seizure issues, food intolerance need to be treated as food intolerance, the person being autistic just makes it more important. But autism is not the root cause. Saying autism is the main cause of the pain if the person have food intolerance is too much like saying white skin is the root problem of skin cancer.

"People with autism" usually refers to 20% of autistic people(excluding HFA/AS and PDD-NOS), it sounds very much like your statistics are based on those 20%. Allergies/intolerances are widespread health issues, so are seizure issues.(by the definition of those studies, which is mostly about seizures so small you don't notice them) Autism does not cause these issues, but autistic people suffer much more from them than others.(and get put in another category of the spectrum)

4.Accidents do happen to all kinds of people, however Autism makes the chances of an accident increase exponentially.Children who cannot fathom dangerous situations are at a higher risk not matter how much care giving they receive. Imagine a child who doesn't understand heights, fire, sharp objects, moving cars, strangers, wild animals, broken glass, poison, fatal allergies, asphyxiation, freezing temperatures, or performs self injury. Not all are that severe, but some are, and it can be fatal.

3."Lower functioning" due to sensory issues can sometimes equate to a great deal of PAIN or at least, discomfort for a person whose world is too bright, too loud, to itchy, too tight, too new, too random or just too much, especially if that person hasn't developed a form of communication that can express where the pain is originating for them. Physical pain is a real part of Autism and shouldn't be ignored; especially by those who themselves have a form of Autism and can communicate.

2. Immunity issues such as allergies and chemical sensitivities due to inability to purge the body of the toxins are not "autism" but they are a very common symptoms (as well as digestive disorders ranging from diarrhea and gas to distended abdomens, painful long-term constipation, and intestinal and rectal prolapse). Again, people die from this.

1. Seizures are a very common symptom in those with autism. Some estimates are between 40% and 60% depending on the definition of seizures used in the study. This is not "autism" but is is a severe symptom of autism and, unfortunately, in some cases it is indeed fatal.

15 of 10 000, 0.15% of 8 year olds, meet the criteria of classical autism/kanners syndrome, it's called classical, because everything else that is now considered 'on the spectrum' was first documented in english in the last 20 years or so.

Seizures is not autism. Extreme allergies is not autism. They do however make an autistic person lower functioning, probably more so for auties than for typicals because of sensory issues. The accidents, yeah sure, typical people do as well. And auties do have plenty of sympathy, but we do not understand empathy. And if we had only spent a 10th the funds we spend on lavish, unreal "cure" ideas on developing speech theraphy, then we would be so damn far ahead of where we are now.....

Awareness is not enough, we need acceptance, and in order to get that it's not so very ideal to place autism or homosexuality on the same list as diseases.

The number has increased. I heard recently 1/148 stats for kids born with autism. 3/4th male.

Then please tell whose fault it is then. Im putting my money on your defected father, might be your mom lol.

HOW DARE YOU! YOU IGNORENT BASTARD! I have a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome. Diagnosed aged 21. I am 27 now. My life has been made hell by the children I went to school with, who bullied me relentlessly and then I was thrown out of 5 jobs in a row because I couldn't talk over coffee!!! I have spent years self harming via overdoses and now require full-time support from the National Autistic Society and NONE of THAT is MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"We understand the amount of care and enduring love that it takes for families have autistic children." Brick Casey, Tell me just HOW you understand autism & how families cope? Tell me how hard it is to physically abuse your child, bacause the behavior doesn't match intellectual capacity, and the child can sing, but not talk/ understand language. How about the poor family and the autistic 41 y.o. who is in therapy since 14 dealing with Trauma/PTSD and autism? You're a slap in my face!

You my sir are apparently mentally retarded yourself, so the money benefits you as well. I am glad you are able to take care of yourself that way! Way to go! Proud of ya :D

No, i shouldnt. Im productive in this society, i work, but unfortenly my money goes to retardkids and niggers.

and you should get exterminated for breathing or precious air and contaminating our world with your mere being... just a thought...

Autism kids need to be exterminated, they inherited a defect gen and will only keep us normal people busy. Better kill them instead of giving them our taxmoney.

what the hell is with the shit music!!here i am just wanting to know about autism..then this crap is playing!!

People DO die from Autism, drowning and other accidents, seizures, and extreme allergies. There is a great deal of physical pain for these kids also. The people posting "I'm an Autie or Aspie and I'm o.k. so you should accept it." are not dealing with the more severe forms of Autism personally. They are showing a character trait of lack of empathy for others who are suffering. They are happy but don't care if you are. If it doesn't matter to you if others are in pain, you shouldn't comment.

Your argument about autism funding vs other illnesses doesn't work, for two simple reasons: - Autism is not always accurately diagnosed, because as you probably know, it encompasses a huge category of traits. - Autism. Doesn't. Kill. I'm surprised that you overlooked that fact. I think I would be very offended by this if I was a cancer patient or if I had diabetes like my father. But no, I'm just autistic. And I'm doing fine without a cure, thanks for asking.

I've been on a forum for people with autistic spectrum disorders for years, and several times someone askes if they would take a miracle pill that would "cure" them if someone ever invented such a pill. 99% said no... We auties are mostly happy the way we are, just like non-auties (NT's / NeuroTypicals) are happy to be the way they are. Don't try to cure us from something we don't want to be cured from. This is our only way to feel safe and secure in this world.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no cure and there will be no cure in the foreseeable future. Recent tests have shown "abnormalities" in the structure of the brain, and that is not something that can be "cured" by pills, therapy or surgery. So I guess my diagnoses is a lifetime thing. Fortunately I have become able to accept this. It took me about 3 yrs after my diagnosis, but I now know that I'm an autie for life. (Proud to be autie, too).

Autism needs a cure, but it also needs time, patience and THERAPY!
