True democracy is a flawed system where the majority will eventually enslave the minority. A constitutional republic works great, if the Constitution is well written and well enforced. In America, we have a well written Constitution, unfortunately it is not enforced, and that's how politicians get away with the drug war, the undeclared war in Iraq, wars on poverty (that actually produce poverty), etc.
