Saliva from cancer patients and healthy donors was tested using a slightly modified RECAF chemiluminescence assay. A variety of malignancies were tested, including lung, breast and gastrointestinal cancers. The results showed that the test can detect cancer with 87% sensitivity and 91% specificity (sensitivity is the percentage of cancer patients that are positive with the test and specificity is the percentage of healthy individuals that the test reports as negative).

Actualy it's not new at all. This technology has been around since the 1970's but the research done on it then was (so I've read) conducted poorly and inconclusive. I've been researching the use of infra-red waves in medicine for a physics project. It seems to be a very useful tool in EARLY breast cancer detection as is completely safe. I really don't know why it isn't used more, perhaps we need some good research so that people will take note. Thanks for posting.
