it has nothing to do with him being a gypsy and everything to do with people putting titles on something as subjective as music.

He is incdibly good and influent in the gypsy scene all around the world, but I think Jimmy Rosenberg is an extremely brilliant guitarist, and my personal favorite would be Angelo Debarre.

I beg to differ good sir, show me another guitar player who can improv at that level and is a master of literally every single style of guitar in existence. Bireli is king, people just dont like accepting a GYPSY as the best guitar player on the face of the earth.

If you take apart music the way you do, you can succesfully denigrate any genre of music. It's ultimately only a matter of taste of course!

I dont understand how anybody find this music favorable, all it consits of, is a back beat (unchanging bass and drums), and a guitarist who plays incredibly fast, which takes skill, but there is no feeling in this music, no groove. its just boring for me to watch.

There is no best guitar player,there are just different styles. Music is not a competition of the fastest or loudest..etc. guitar pickers. Music is a great chance to transport feelings and bring sunshine in sad lives.

Oh well; when I got into this argument, I doubt I knew what I was talking about. It's funny to revisit something so old.

A year on, and I can see I might have been a little harsh. Django played jazz, but in a totally original style. "Gypsy jazz" came later, in the 1970s, when Gypsies and others started copying him more closely. To my knowledge, no one used the term in the '30s and '40s.
