I think this is only in America via YouTube: I read somewhere that Bireli was massively against Bush and the whole "freedom-fry" approach to *diplomacy*... I know he has been a no-show several times since the occupation of Iraq & Mission Accomplished (much to the dismay of his fans here in the states!)

OneBigRetard I agree generally, but I'd change that handle of yours. You're probably a better "musicologist" than most of the morons I've sween commenting.

Paco dominates? I have too much love for Paco, but musically, espec. improvisationally. JM is in a different league. Damn though, Paco on that guitar is one of the seven wonders of the world. As for this, BL is a super-heavyweight guitarist and a middle/cruiserweight musician. JM is a super-heavy weight with 8 belts across the board.

Where is America in this exchange? (other than the composition)

that's bireli's cousin theodore. known as "the beav" in music circles.

cool bireli

those hexatonics at 1.39 are AMAZING!

who is the 3d guy with the guitar?

these guys are so damn good!

John is british...

That look that John has in the beginning... scary.

That was really reary funny.

c'est trop trop bon !!!

Shut up you dumb ass!! Nobody gives a shit about your fucking opinion!!! Go fuck yourself you asshole!!!!!!!!!!!

Tout simplement magnifique...

............continued - So as you see comparisons are not straight forward and to try and compare you only insult your heroes by reducing what they do to something you can talk about and quantify in a simplistic sentence. If you like them as much as you say then respect them by not comparing.

sorry my friends, clearly you don't play guitar as well as these guys. if you listen carefully you'll hear that bireli's licks are mostly typical of old school jazz/cliches. i love bireli and he has lot of other shades, colors and tricks, more so than mc laughlin but mac is the most interesting in this exchange. much more so. John does not 'swing' as well as bireli but he comes from beyond bebop. Bireli with all his flair will never take jazz into another entire new school like johnny.

Is there somewhere one can get hold of your transcription?

I don't think McLaughlin was a wee bit worried being that I've watched all the DeLucia, McLaughlin duets and the Trio and Supertrio vids rewinding them repeatedly to analyze, them, and being that my conclusion is that on most of the pieces DeLucia dominates ultimately, but on some McLaughlin does, but being that neither LaGrenne or DiMeola dominate any of them and Larry Corryel is just out classed by all of them. I actually feel a little sorry for that schmoozer.

this should be on guitar hero ha!

haha - I know, that third guy has that look on his face as if to say, "why the hell did I even bother to show up to this thing today anyway..." but I'm sure he's a TON better of a guitar player than I am, still!! =)

This was such an interesting meeting of titans, that I started transcribing Bireli's solo, for my ebook of transcriptions. A lot of people have asked what is that 'outside' riff that cascades up the neck. It's a whole tone riff over the D7 Eb7 change. The idea is simple but mastering the sweep only comes with time. I didn't transcribe John's solo, so can't make a comparison between approaches . If anybody else has, perhaps we can do a swap and come back with an analysis.

genius, pure genius. america and france can do something to save that #%*$&! world... :)

ma che cazzata!

LOVELY MUSIC ..PLAY .REG LASZLO..
