I remember Bobby Murcer's playing days. A Murcer memory of mine- after recouperating for 4 weeks in the hospital with a serious bout of salmonella food poisoning saw Murcer hit 2 mammouth homeruns against Texas Rangers at the Stadium one last August evening.(one actually appeared to have cleared the stadium although it didn't)Yankees didn't win pennant that year & I was a Mets fan.Nevertheless it was a very fun experience after spending 4 weeks in a hospital bed. Murcer was class act of Yankees.

Bobby deserves to be in Monument Park with a retired number simply because he was the only player worth watching for years and years from 1969-1975, and one of the few broadcasters worth listening to afterwards.

#8 is for Berra and Bill Dickey both hall of fame catchers. Berra took the number after Dickey retired as a dedication because Dickey taught him everything about catching. #42 is retired throughout baseball but no doubt even if it wasnt the Yankees would retire it for Rivera eventually. while i agree that he derserves a plaque in monument park based on his contributions. his player stats were not all the impressive to retire either number BTW #32 is for Elly Howard

it would not be the first time the yankees have retired the same number twice for two players and it will be done again #42 will be retired twice 1-for mo 2- jackie robinson and # 8 is retired twice i think elston howard and yogi berra were both number 8

R.I.P. Bobby. He started and ended with the Yanks. But as a life long Cubs fan, those of us in CHI-Town will never forget Murcer for the contributions he made during the short time he was with the team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one of the first moves Steinbrenner made was to trade Murcer to the Giants for Bobby Bonds. I really hated George that day.

How much we will miss this man. An outstanding human being and a total class act. His soul is surely in a good place now.

he definently deserves a plaque for his contributions, as for his number, #1 is already retired for Billy Martin, and #2 is being used and eventually retired for Jeter

RIP Bobby Murcer I never saw you play, but you did what John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman fail miserably at. Your commentary and knowledge of the game will truly be missed

yankees need to put a plack out in monument park and retire his number for his contributions to the game

R>I>P
