In the US cancer too is a systematic method of removing any wealth in the family and/or throwing them into HUGE debt. A friend was harassed into taking a several hundred thousand dollar mortgage on her home to pay for her mothers cancer care. Naturally she died anyway and my friend person was robbed of her ability to retire due to wanting to save her families honor in the darkness of an collection process. If this is YOU don't let them do this!

While having a brain tumour in Canada is certainly not a cost factor compared to the U.S., our long wait period can be killers. From the day I first went to my doctor until I had my craniotomy, almost two years elapsed due to our wait-lists for specialists and MRIs. Wound up paying for a private MRI rather than waiting four months. After surgery, it was a year-and-a-half wait for an appointment with a neuro-pysch. Lucky for me my tumour was low-grade and slow growing.

the quality of doctors in the free healthcare system in Canada doesnt even compare to the quality of doctors in the US. If we had free healthcare it would take months, maybe years for people with serious illness to get medical attention, as there would be overcrowded hospitals and medical centers, just like in Canada.

what a cold world why not just move to canada this is rediculous America the land of the free whatever this rich ass country can't even save a life?

peefie in canada healthcare is also free, regardless of income. Even europe and other place have free healthcare, I dont understand why americans dont do the same instead of making their people suffer, and go bankrupt. You should watch the movie sicko, its some pretty sad stuff. Phew!

I am so glad things are so much better here in the Netherlands. My health insurance plan covers ALL expenses which include craniotomy, Temodar capsules, radiation, consults and MRI scans. People with brain tumors shouldn't have to worry about MONEY!

I also forgot to add my insurance hasn't "dropped" me but they no longer pay for my nerosurgen or my endrocronolgist.

This is exactly what I'm going through. I have a pituitary tumor (Macroprolactinoma) and I have to pay $200 each visit with my endrocronlogist, $1000 each MRI (been having them once every 3 months for a year)plus hospital stays and trying to get disability insurance I have racked up $53,000 in insurance cost since my diagnois in Aug 06. It is a horrible situation we are in here in America and it will only get worse I'm afraid.

how many patients get dumped by their insurance shortly after dx?
