Description: Dear All, This is a video response to Hughsnews, who is trying to raise awareness of leukemia research. I wanted to add another element into discussion, drawing from a book by Dr. Devra Davis, called the Secret History of the War on Cancer. She is the scholar in residence of the National Academy of Sciences, a prestigious science institution. This book is on the subject of rarely talked about -- but very important -- environmental risks to human health. The cover of the book begins with, "For much of its history, the cancer war has been fighting the wrong battles, with the wrong weapons, against the wrong enemies...the result is appalling: over 10 million preventable cancer deaths over the past thirty years. This has been no accident." For a little more on the book: http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/01/is-there-a-secret-history-of-the-war-on-cancer-ask-for-yourself/ *important to note* When I said most of the studies have shown chemicals to cause cancer, neuroendocrine disruption, block cell signaling, cell abnormalities, I was referring to studies on animals, cell cultures, and humans. Hm everything can give you cancer or disease or sickness! It's all depending on your genetics makeup. Just hope that you have super resilient genes and hope that your own body does not become your enemy. Nuts are my friends and they are also my friend's enemies.

I just read an article that BPA (Bisphenol A) a widespread chemical used in consumer plastics might cause cancer. If it proves to be true its has massive consequences due to its large scale! sciencedaily (dot)com/releases/2008/04/0804 22114734.htm

Hello Jeff, I am a resident at a hospital emergency department in the Netherlands. It is challenging to assess the dangers of many substances that we are subjected to, starting from conception, till death. It is to date impossible to challenge all. Otherwise we would have banned smoking and alcohol a long time ago, increasing health and longevity and quality of life, and less health costs. Keep up the good work.

it's just the way of the world, but hey if there really is a cure for it, ya'll are gonna find it for sure one day. Make one hel! of an effort doing it.

hundreds of thousands of people get cancer on purpose.

Very true. A small percentage of unaffected people are likely to purchase a preventative product, whereas virtually all affected individuals are likely to purchase a cure.

Hi sorry for posting up a question which is totally irrelevant to the video. I just want to know what life is like to be a harvard med student.Doctors give me an impression of someone who pulls all nighters every now and then. I want to become a surgeon but i'm afraid i'd kill a million patients during my career. P.S: i HAVE actually watched your videos, and i find them extremly interesting. Thx for sharing!

Great video, I think for commercial company's there is no incentive to invest in preventive research because the money is in curing. Thus it should be all researched by government funding and then regulated worldwide. But it remains a challenge, what to measure and to be able to attribute results to the right cause.

Nice video

i love your videos, so interesting and informative. would you recommend natural products and such then?

Thanks for sharing! Planning on being an oncologist or radiologist. =) Hope I find the cure. =/

on google:P

great stuff. thank you for posting. :)

where can we find formaldehyde???

We are killing ourselves with the amounts of chemicals in our food, cloths, air etc. We know so very little and in some areas we choose to ignore the evidence. I never understand why is it that we do not research in advance instead of only relying on hindsight. We always rush recklessly forward while we create great amounts of toxins. We also look at things individually, this is ok at this quantity and that is ok in that quantity, but we never know what the cumulative effect is. Keep posting.

Where can I get that book(The Secret History of the War on Cancer)? Its not listed in any of my local public libraries...

Good information. I think formaldehyde is really bad, too, and it's in a lot of things.

I love your videos, awesome and interesting!! Keep them coming!

Hi Jeff, you look funny :) Can I shake your hand?

Wow, thanks for sharing this. Scary stuff. It's sad that as consumers we know so little about the products we use every day. We assume the government will do everything it can to ensure our safety. The truth is, the responsibility rests on us to know the truth. If only it were that simple...

Hi Jeff, great points in your video. It's sad to hear about the lack of research in this field, and it sounds like there is a resistance to further develop the research from pharmaceutical companies? I will definitely look into Dr. Davis' book. Thanks for such a thought provoking response!
