autism is sad, I'm glad to see there's some hope. I just found out that I have mild asperger's disorder, and it all makes sense. My obsessiveness and narrow train of thought all fits the bill. My condition controls me, and I don't control myself. Its a very mild form, but I couldn't even begin to imagine what its like for someone to have it more intensely than I do.

You are completely correct. I have a 3yr old son that is Autistic. He in speech and occupational therapy. That along with giving him omega-3's every morning has helped him so much. He use to walk around the house like a ghost never acknowledge any other being in the room. Stopped speaking all together.

The word recovery is dangerous,cause it raises wrong expectations.There's no doubt that therapy can improve behaviour dramatically.Also isolated children start to speak many things might still be confusing for them.They have to learn strategies how to cope with many things in life.Denying the fact that their brains work different(not wrong) doesn't help them. Accepting the fact that there's no cure and helping them to accept themselves is in the opinion of many autism experts the better way.

The question becomes what did the chelation and GFCF diet accomplish and that should be shown in a scientific study. If you see things in your child after the treatment one should think about whether or not we are speaking about behaviors and see if ABA can help. By ABA I do not mean DTT. I mean ABA and that implies looking at controls in all environments and behavior that adults exhibit in all environments. Note she focuses on her child looking (a behavior).

No kidding. So what if he isn't fully "cured"; my five-year-old daughter is nowhere NEAR his level. She is almost completely nonverbal (although she has good receptive language and has started asking "why), is still not potty-trained, and stims all day and is very hyper. I would give my right arm for my daughter to be as high-functioning as this child is.

Ok the 1st kid is still a little off, but if he can go to a normal school with other normal kids, he's doing pretty darn good. The "face of autism" to lay people is a child spinning around alone or tantruming- that boy was pleasant, probably very excitable about being on TV and pretty hyper- but I work with "normal" kids his age and they act similarly- hyper... nothing like my asd kids. Maybe someday he'll have a new dx of ADHD- but ASD? give some credit where its due, he's doin pretty good.

The first kid is stimming so bad. That mother is seriously blind by uninformed doctors if she thinks her kid is "cured". True if you told me tomorrow that I could give my severally autistic brother a pill and he would be NT I would do it, however that pill, that "cure" isn't there, so I will except that he is my brother first, then he is autistic. I'd love him no matter what, he had/was/is, that is what accepting a person means.

That child is still clearly autistic. Denying it will not help him in the long run. Children with autism can improve in different areas of their life, that can come with age and/or intervention from a multidisciplinary team. Autism is not a diesase. You cannot cure it and this is just giving parents a false hope, its not reality. Just accept your child as they are and help them in any areas they need help. But do not ever deny who they are, appreciate your child and love him.

I am considered an autistic person and I want it to be cured. Autistics are normal people you are right about that. It is a disease though and it is emotionally painful. Its very lonely in your own world.
