(June 9)Ted Kennedy is out of the hospital--a week after surgery to remove part of a cancerous brain tumor. The Massachusetts Senator left Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. In a statement, his office says he will head back to his Cape Cod home to prepare for the next phase of his treatment. The 76-year-old was diagnosed with a malignant glioma last month. He underwent a three-and-a-half hour surgery last Monday to improve the chances that chemotherapy and radiation will work on the aggressive type of cancer. Kennedy's son says the procedure went better than anyone expected. Representative Patrick Kennedy says his father is writing new universal health care legislation so he can have it ready if Democrat Barack Obama wins the presidency.The statement from Kennedy's office also says he's thankful for the extraordinary care at Duke and for the prayers from people all over. ___ ___, The Associated Press.
