Description: "Our patient Roy Rice is keen to let you all know that he was not aware of the maggots moving round at all. He was just glad that the biofilm was being removed painlessly and naturally, rather than having to endure more of the painful process of debridement manually with a sharp scraper. Thank you Roy. Today the heavens opened..." This patient, Roy, had several traumatic leg wounds. The skin blistered and became infected. He was a US Army veteran. You can read about it here: http://www.amazingphage.info/page6.htm#10806 He has since passed away, peacefully in his sleep. He donated his body to medical science. Grace Filby's Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship Award blog is at http://www.amazingphage.info - Chronic biofilm infections of wounds can be removed naturally and painlessly - e.g. maggot therapy to enable healing to take place. Location: Southwest Regional Woundcare Center, Lubbock, Texas. Other strategies include phage therapy (using bacteriophages - available in Poland and Georgia for treating antibiotic-resistant infections including MRSA), surgical debridement, ultrasonic debridement, hyperbaric oxygen, lactoferrin, xylitol etc.. Original video footage available. Roy features briefly in a half-hour video available autumn 2008: "Amazing Phage - the Scientists and the Patients". It includes people whose lives were saved with phage medicine, e.g. after MRSA, and are now well again. Music: the artist is 'taboca' and the track is Mach Inspire. It's an audio-swap service provided by YouTube that can be added to videos. Genre: Classical. (Copyright holder: Creative Commons; Policy: Allow; Countries: Everywhere)

y say thank u?

ewie

The filming was for independent research and at the invitation of the medical director and the patient - not as part of the medical team. Regarding a sterile environment, I did witness how carefully and thoroughly the treatment rooms are cleaned and prepared, ready for each and every patient. Even the air conditioning for each room is separate so that any airborne germs are not transferred round the building. You can read the detail on my research blog (May 2007).

hey is that a medical personelor something.. he doesnt know how is the proper removal of gloves.. and it seems that the environment is not pretty much sterile... as a part of medical team please explain this one..

the same reason you watch it. think about it.

i mean i can handle a fare bit but that dudes leg gave me shivers lol

so the next time u kill a fly, at least say thank you before xD

thanks

Maggot therapy is the most painless and complete way to remove necrotic (dead) tissue. A surgeon will take a border of healthy tissue when cutting out the dead tissue. Maggots will only eat dead tissue and stop at live, healthy tissue. Medical grade, laboratory maggots raided in a sterile enviroment are used for this procedure.

RAWR for Maggots!!!!!

No, it isn't true. I think your friend was joking! Get well soon, and well done for checking the facts.

is it true that person had maggots under hiss cast on his arm?........because i just had my first cast put on and my friend sayed that happened.

The reason is given at the top of the page - please click on 'More information'.

why do people post videos like this on youtube?

they are kinda nasty but there good to they eat out bad stuff and poisens in your body so yeah

maggots help us get out r dead flesh and make new ones u rock maggots

that is just sick

we get homeless people in out er all the time with maggots, they eat all of the dead flesh, they probably increase peoples life expectency by keeping their wounds, dead flesh free

so how do u get maggots like that in ur body?? i would like to avode that. plz tell me how i can avode it

RIP

GOOD!!!

He was in his early 60s - I have a note of it somewhere. At the time of the recording he was deciding whether to retire early from the postal service. On the subject of amputation, my research notes with the doctors and patients at the Wound Care Center include: "Although many doctors believe that there is no alternative to amputation, indeed there is. A patient can keep the foot, live longer and still walk on it."

How old was he when he passed away? and wouldnt it of been easer to remove his leg?

Thanks for keeping an eye on the postings. Roy has gone to a better place now. He wants us to know that maggot therapy is one of the painless ways of treating infected wounds. It's a bit smelly, but he had determination and a good sense of humour. Each treatment room is filtered to prevent the spread of airborne pathogens around the clinic. For new video clips about Roy on this channel, please type in: maggot therapy 3.

just the idea of an image that u got tons of maggots in our flesh eating ur dead flesh is not painless, but it feels sick for some people.
